Innovative Financing
This course will introduce you to the different financing methods and models for life sciences and biotech companies. Volker Fitzner is a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers Deutsche Revision AG, Frankfurt, Germany. He is heading the Chemicals/Pharma industry team in the Corporate Finance Division Valuation & Strategy. He has many years experience in Valuation & Strategy, M&A and IPO projects. He holds a degree in Business Administration/Economics and a PhD on Financial Derivatives.
Thomas Taapken is Partner at DVC Deutsche Venture Capital, Munich, Germany since beginning of 2003. He has a long international and operational experience in the fields of venture capital and life sciences. As Director of Aventis Venture Activities and Managing Director of the FCPR Genavent VC Fund (fund volume 100 Mio. Euro) he was responsible for the management of this joint fund between Aventis and Societée Générale Asset Management. He received his PhD in chemistry at the Technical University of Berlin.
Since 1997, Rudolf Gygax is Managing Director of the Novartis Venture Fund, Basel Switzerland. For nearly twenty years prior, he held various positions in the management of research and development at Ciba, including process safety and high-technology materials research. Rudolf Gygax studied physical chemistry at the University of Basel, Switzerland, and Stanford University, California, prior to joining Ciba-Geigy in 1978. Dr. Gygax heads the Start-up Fund and also serves as a director on the boards of several start-up companies in which the Novartis Venture Fund holds an equity stake.
Klaus Breiner, PhD, is an Investment Manager at Global Life Science Ventures, Munich, Germany. He has been involved in several lead investments and serves as a board member or a board observer at some GLSV portfolio companies. He is a trained chemist, has a PhD in Molecular Biology and was a business consultant with Booz Allen & Hamilton prior to joining GLSV in 2001.
Martin Austin is a Principal in the Paul Royalty Fund of Paul Capital Partners heaving previously been Head of Business Development for the Pharmaceutical Division of Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel. He has over 25 years experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry in roles from Marketing to Finance.
Alfred Scheidegger is founding partner and CEO of Nextech Venture, Zürich, Switzerland. Until 1998, Mr. Scheidegger was the managing director and a member of the board of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, Switzerland. Prior to that, he served as the first managing director of the Swiss Supercomputing Centre (CSCS). Before that, he managed an international biotechnology project in the agrochemical field at Ciba-Geigy Ltd., Japan (today Novartis Ltd.). Mr. Scheidegger holds a PhD in microbiology from the University of Basel, Switzerland.
Ute Günther, Business Angels Netzwerk Deutschland e.V., Germany, studied philosophy, Romanistic and educational sciences. She is a member of board of BAND, the Business Angels Network Germany and BAAR, the Business Angels Agency Ruhr e.V. and is a project leader of Gründer Support Ruhr.
Petra Nix, Member of the Management Board of Kirchhoff Consult AG, director of Kirchhoff Consult AG, Luzern, Switzerland, born in 1962, studied business administration alongside her professional responsibilities and graduated with an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester, N.Y., USA, in 1996. She held positions in research, institutional sales and trading at various investment banks, was IR manager at Wella AG, Darmstadt/Germany and at VIAG (now E.ON) in Munich.
