Comprehensive Deal Valuation and Portfolio Planning

Mission and Content

The course will give a state-of-the- art update of methods and practical problems in deal valuation and portfolio planning.

Decision trees, real options, cost of capital, risk analysis, overall business planning and other methods will be presented with a specific focus on the pharma and biotech industry. The course will enable attendants to valuate deals and to build financial forecasts for a whole portfolio of compounds as well as service and technology deals.

In addition to learning and practi-cally applying these methods, speakers from different market players will share the practical experiences in that complex area, covering the perspective of big pharma, venture capital, biotech as well as small and medium sized pharma.

About the Speakers

Randolf Schrank, PhD, is cofounder, co-owner and head of the competence centre Pharma/Healthcare of the management-consulting firm Perlitz Strategy Group, Mannheim, Germany. He received a graduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Mannheim. For his work in the field of combining Balanced Scorecards and Total Quality Management he also holds a PhD in Business Administration from University of Mannheim. The focus of his consulting work is on Performance Measurement, Management of Innovation, Strategy Development, and Controlling.

Matthias Litschke, Dipl. Kfm., M.B.A., is a Management Senior Consultant with Perlitz Strategy Group, Mannheim, Germany. The focus of his work is on strategy and technology valuation in the Pharma and Biotech Industries.

Sven Rohmann, born 1962, holds a MD from the University of Mainz, Germany, and a PhD from the Erasmus University, Rotterdam, Netherlands. His managerial career included a variety of pharma positions, e.g. global head of strategic marketing oncology at Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. Latest, he was founding CEO of Ganymed Pharmceutcals AG, Mainz, Germany. Actually, he is Managing Partner of Nextech Venture AG, Zürich, Switzerland and CEO of BioVisioN AG, Hannover, Germany. He published scientific and business literature focusing now on innovation management and - marketing.

Thomas Brennecke, PhD, is a Licensing Manager at Merckle GmbH in Ulm, Germany. A mid-sized pharmaceutical company operating in the market for more than 120 years, Merckle has successfully focused its activities on rheumatic diseases/osteoporosis and chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. Dr. Brennecke has more than seven years experience in various positions in the pharmaceutical and venture capital industry. Before joining Merckle GmbH, he was with DVC – Deutsche Venture Capital. There, amongst other things, he was in charge of finance, support and valuation of biotech companies throughout Europe and USA. Dr. Brennecke holds masters degrees in economics and biology. He studied biology at the Technical University Braunschweig and at the Medical University Hannover. He received his PhD in molecular biology from the Ludwig - Maximillian University Munich.

Dr. Ilka Wicke Since 1998, Dr. Ilka Wicke is a member of BI's Corporate Licensing Group. As an international project leader licensing she pursued several licensing activities in different indication areas and stages, with the successful completion of several R&D licensing agreements, patent and technology licenses. She is currently responsible for the indication area urology and is heading the respective Business Advisory Team. Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation Germany is one of the world's 20 leading pharmaceutical corporations, with annual net sales of € 7,58 mio in 2002.
